Paul Walters runs the London Marathon

Report from Wednesday 12th April 2000

Registered but ropey

Things can be summarised as follows:

  • I am rather concerned about taking part in the Marathon, because when I tested my legs last Sunday, I could feel my ligament problems and shin splint problems appear after a short distance. I have been trying to make these ailments better this week, but it's all a bit late. I have stabbing pains in my left leg muscles which I hope will disappear by Sunday. I have developed a cold which I hope to shake off by Sunday. On top of this I feel rather under-trained and unfit because I have not being putting in the appropriate training runs in an attempt to fix my injuries. At least it sounds like the weather should be improving.

  • I appear in an article in the Redhill, Reigate and Horley Independent newspaper this week, and I should also appear in the Surrey Mirror.

  • I have registered for the marathon at the London Arena today, and received my number to put on my vest, and a "chip" which I have to attach to my shoe so that my times are taken.

  • I now have coloured my hair in preparation for the marathon. My cold weather running livery can be seen below. I'll be in just Day-Glo yellow vest and shorts if it's warm.
